The YWCA Wheeling’s Cultural Diversity & Community Outreach department has teamed up with Oglebay Institute’s Towngate Theatre & Cinema and WTRF-TV to bring a truly unique event to the Valley. The idea of mixing styles, blending genres, and combining expressions of art; is the driving force behind this event. It is still a competition, as well.
On Sunday, Feb. 11th, 1pm- 3pm at the YWCA’s theater, local singers will audition for the coaching teams. The artists auditioning will be expected to have an a cappella piece prepared to sing for the coaches. After each team of coaches has heard the auditions, they will confer with themselves and select singers to agree to coach for the main performance at Oglebay Institute’s Towngate Theater on Mach 31st. The coaches’ main goal is to prepare two performances with each of their selected singers. The coaches are to help select the songs and help prepare every aspect of the performance. However, there will be no choreography. Just singing. The singers and the coaches are left to their own discretion to decide how often to meet, and areas to work on. The YWCA and the Children’s Museum of the Ohio Valley have offered up space if the coaches need areas to work with their singers. The coaching teams are the following:
